Rise and fall of Blackberry

 Rise and fall of Blackberry

Blackberry, Once a pioneer who started off the whole smartphone revolution, gave world some extraordinary devices from pager to handheld computers to smartphones is up for sale now. RIM (Research in motion) the original name of the Canadian company, was started by a couple of engineering students in 1984 worked in the field of wireless technology and made the consumers addict for their keyboard devices is losing all its users to new organizations like apple , Samsung ,  Sony etc.

Why the company which once showed enormous growth and was riding so high that it looked like nothing could stop it is now in a potentially downward spiral.

Why even after having a well acclaimed and robust security system and a top of the line messenger –BBM, the organization is losing all its charm.

As this is understood nowadays that only a good hardware does not account for the success of a product, it is the underlying software which values more and the seamless integration of both decides a product’s survival in the market. Blackberry is well known for their QWERTY keyboards but it’s their ageing Operating system which led them suffer in the market in a cutting edge competition with Google’s Android and Apple’s Ios
.
Blackberry took some measures in this area by understanding the need of the hour and launched their latest OS10 which is pretty good but they made a mistake in the pricing of their latest devices which runs on this new OS. These heavy priced devices which were unaffordable in bigger markets like China and India was simply a bad move and failed to attract the masses.

Now everyone including users who are currently using BB products and who are willing to, knows that the organization is a sinking ship and no one is there to provide a logical support if they face any problem. Moreover the developers who are the lifeline of today’s application centric organizations will show no interest in wasting their precious hours in working for a firm which can be shut anytime soon.

So Are we going to see new keyboard devices with a flashing light in front, will there be new songs for Blackberry boys, and will there be continuous notifications from BBM or not. The answers of these are yet to be find out.

Once a leader now an also-ran, what does the future holds for blackberry?

Wearable Technology

  Wearable Technology

The new wave of technology is here and it is called Wearable technology. The technological devices which were only seen in movies of James bond are now ready to move out from the sci-fi movies. Google has already launched its Google glass which will be available for consumers in 2014.Samsung's galaxy Gear and Sony's Smart watch 2 is out in the market and other tech giants like Apple, LG, and Nissan are going to launch their wearable products soon. So a new segment of technology products is going to take the market by storm but will this next big thing is worth noticing or is it a next big failure.

There is a huge potential in technology market and new inventions are always welcomed. The market of Wearable products has already reached around $4.6 bn which shows that the consumers are showing interest in this new sector. But every new product range has to face new challenges which decides the future acceptance of that technology. Wearable technology has to deal with many obstacles like convenience, battery life, privacy, functionality, theft etc.

The biggest obstacle of technical devices is their battery life, by far all users are suffered with this problem and without any doubt wearable tech products will also be afflicted by the same. This will limit their use as these devices are to be synchronized with the smartphones that will further result in faster consumption of batteries of both the devices.

Another big problem is privacy. With the introduction of these devices the personal life of the consumers and non-consumers is on stake. For instance a person wearing Google glass can click pictures and record videos of anyone and they will not even know about it. That's why it is banned in many public places like restrooms, boardrooms, bars etc.

These wearable techs have to be smart and at the same time should also serve the purpose of handiness. It would be illogical and a turn off for consumers if they would be bigger and out of their comfort zone. So manufacturers have to face lots of difficulties in establishing their products in this market
.
Nothing is safe in this digital world, be it your smartphone, tablet or computer. So either manufacturers have to develop a robust security system for their products or they need a certification from the German hackers group; Computers chaos Club who breached the security lock of iPhone 5s.

If the wearable devices survived all these obstacles then this segment of technology will be termed as a new dimension just like internet did in past. We are going to see a lot of devices in this coming year, some magical which will leave us spellbound because of the endless possibilities of human thinking and some so bizarre that will disappoint us with the idea of wearable tech products. At present this is an area of experimentation, products will be launch and will be discarded and time will determine the future existence of this technology sector.

Information Bombardment

Information bombardment

Information bombardment is the excess of information which distracts a person in various forms like instant messages, tweets, face book activities, email spasms, TV and books etc. This unmanageable amount of information often leads to problems in decision making ability and impacts productivity.

Twenty first century is the era of information technology and internet is the backbone of communication. More and more people are connecting to internet continuously and are resulting in an enormous amount of data. The introduction of new technology products each day is making life easy and difficult at the same time.
Today all of the world's total codified information doubles every eleven hours. According to research from the Institute for intellectual Capital Research, the average knowledge worker receives 84 emails in a twenty-four hour period and that number is expected to rise significantly over the next few years. As the pace of technology change accelerates, we are increasingly experiencing a bombardment of information from all dimensions.

Statistics show that we are interrupted every three minutes during the course of work day. One interesting fact is that even after engaging in multitasking on mobile phones and computers in e-mails , websites , text messages, multi tabs browsers and listening music on iPods, , which is forcing brain to process more and more information at greater and greater speeds, human brain has hardly changed in the last 40, 000 years.

Dr. Nick Bontis , international keynote speaker said that if we want to survive, we have to adapt efficient information-processing behaviours. This practice is important not only for businesses and companies but also for individuals.

In order to grab as much information as possible, we are failing to learn how to prioritize the information we want over and we don’t want.

Information bombardment is also impacting on the psychology of the active users. Alvin Toffler, an American writer links information bombardment with sensory overload. This phenomenon causes disorientation and lack of responsiveness.
Information bombardment is also the cause of "information anxiety" which is the gap between the information we understand and the information that we want to understand. Modern day technology devices like Smart phones and tablets that we are using now are often set to receive information in the form of notifications from all possible sources like social networking sites, news applications etc and users are normally jumping from one to another in order to grasp everything. The fear of losing the information make these active users frustrated and socially cut from their surroundings because most of the time they are busy in their smart devices.

Information bombardment also leads to corruption of information. Many individuals add data on internet by copying from other sources which deteriorate the value of original source. This also results in complexity to find the accurate data from a sea of information.

Active smart devices users can turn off their notifications which usually draw their attention and make them suffer in various ways.
People should not forget the importance of being socially active to their surroundings and they should not get completely dependent on their smart devices.
