Rise and fall of Blackberry
Blackberry, Once a pioneer who started off the whole
smartphone revolution, gave world some extraordinary devices from pager to
handheld computers to smartphones is up for sale now. RIM (Research in motion)
the original name of the Canadian company, was started by a couple of
engineering students in 1984 worked in the field of wireless technology and
made the consumers addict for their keyboard devices is losing all its users to
new organizations like apple , Samsung ,
Sony etc.
Why the company which once showed enormous growth
and was riding so high that it looked like nothing could stop it is now in a
potentially downward spiral.
Why even after having a well acclaimed and robust
security system and a top of the line messenger –BBM, the organization is losing
all its charm.
As this is understood nowadays that only a good
hardware does not account for the success of a product, it is the underlying
software which values more and the seamless integration of both decides a product’s
survival in the market. Blackberry is well known for their QWERTY keyboards but
it’s their ageing Operating system which led them suffer in the market in a
cutting edge competition with Google’s Android and Apple’s Ios
.
Blackberry took some measures in this area by understanding
the need of the hour and launched their latest OS10 which is pretty good but
they made a mistake in the pricing of their latest devices which runs on this
new OS. These heavy priced devices which were unaffordable in bigger markets
like China and India was simply a bad move and failed to attract the masses.
Now everyone including users who are currently using
BB products and who are willing to, knows that the organization is a sinking
ship and no one is there to provide a logical support if they face any problem.
Moreover the developers who are the lifeline of today’s application centric
organizations will show no interest in wasting their precious hours in working
for a firm which can be shut anytime soon.
So Are we going to see new keyboard devices with a
flashing light in front, will there be new songs for Blackberry boys, and will
there be continuous notifications from BBM or not. The answers of these are yet
to be find out.
Once a leader
now an also-ran, what does the future holds for blackberry?
